Bindi Irwin Shares Health Update After Two Major Surgeries, “Slowly Gaining My Strength Back”

Bindi Irwin is opening up about her recovery after having two major surgeries to help her battle with endometriosis.

On Wednesday, August 13, the 27-year-old shared a health update on her Instagram. In it, she shared a selfie with a detailed caption explaining what she has been going through.

Irwin has dealt with multiple health problems over the past few months. Earlier this year, she was rushed to the hospital for her appendix. This caused her to miss the annual gala honoring her late father, Steve Irwin.

In addition to having her appendix removed, she underwent surgery to remove 51 endometriosis lesions and a chocolate cyst.

Irwin, who is a mom to her four-year-old daughter, added that her “hernia from giving birth that was unzipping” was also “taken care of.”

The environmental conservationist first went public with her endometriosis diagnosis in March 2023. She revealed that she had struggled with it for over a decade.

According to the Mayo Clinic, endometriosis is an often extremely painful disease where the tissue that is similar to the inner lining of the uterus grows outside the uterus.

But, after dealing with long-term health issues and severe pain, Irwin says she is finally feeling better after her most recent surgeries.

“I can FINALLY say that I’m feeling better,” she went on to say. “Genuinely healing. I can function in everyday life without wanting to throw up or pass out from the pain. Slowly, slowly gaining my strength back. I cannot express the gravity of my emotions as I am beginning to recognise myself again.”

Because the topic is so personal to her, Irwin added that she hopes her experiences can help “take away the stigma of talking about women’s health.”

“I felt utterly ashamed as a teenager and young adult being told that my pain was just part of being a woman,” she continued. “I felt lesser. I felt hurt. I felt weak. That is not ok. Young girls and women shouldn’t feel alone with pain in the driver’s seat of their lives.”

Many people left messages on Irwin’s post. They shared how grateful they were that someone with a platform is bringing attention to the disease. A few of the comments read:

“I could not think of a better ambassador and role model for women going through this disease than you. So proud of you and excited for your new beginning”

“Thank you Bindi for your strength and kindness in sharing your personal journey and thus allowing a light to shine on women’s health! We LOVE that you are healing, and your bravery is encouraging others to speak out and seek answers.”

“Thank you for all that you do to advocate for the endometriosis community!! You have brought so much awareness to this disease.”
